Evaluation Task 4
In this task i will be talking about all of the technology software i used to create the trailer, poster and magazine front cover. i used several pieces of software which are easy to access to use for an amateur production which is shown with my productions.
the software i used for m productions were: Adobe Photoshop (magazine front cover and poster) Adobe Premiere elements (trailer) garage band (soundtrack) Blogger , Google , Sketchbook pro , final cut pro and mindjet.
Trailer - The production of my trailer used many different type of software. First of all i had to do the storyboard which i wanted to have clarity and be able to understand the story for not just myself but everyone watching. To draw the storyboard the program used watch sketchbook pro which was used to draw individual slides which was used on a bamboo tablet this isn't as amateur and is connected to a computer and you use the mouse to draw on it which comes up on the computer. Both of the software's used were very helpful for the production of the storyboard and i was very please with the clarity, it was also good to get basic sketches and easy to learn to use. Another piece of software i could have used would have been Adobe Photoshop which is a good piece of technology to use and very easy to use, but wouldn't be a suitable for the storyboard as you only need basic clear sketches. For the filming of the trailer we used a video camera provided by my school, which was a fujifilm camera which is a very amateur camera but is good to use in all conditions as it has its perks. The quality of the camera was very amateur an does not give a high resolution as a professional camera would have. This is one way in which our trailer could have been improved on giving a clearer picture but it also had its benefits by giving more of a rugged look i feelt like it added to the amateur feel to our basic British horror. The camera was also easy to use and had a few buttons which made it good to use. The way in which we could import the filming straight to the computer was also very easy with a flip USB which could be use to pop out the side when needed but this part was also very fragile. We wouldn't be able to use an expensive camera having a small budget but i do feel this camera played to the strengths of our film being able to place the camera is more rugged conditions where as using a more expensive camera we would be able to do. The tripod we used also helped with the steadiness of our film having a handheld camera makes the filming extremely poor quality so using a tripod was very important otherwise the film would be barely watchable. We used the tripod in the woods whilst filming and on uneven ground.
this is the bamboo tablet.
This is the tripod i used to steady the camera during filming.
Finishing the animatic - For the final piecing together of the animatic i needed to use piece of software which i could use to put the sketches together from the storyboard. For the animatic i needed to make sure to keep the clarity like in the storyboard. The animatic is the start to piecing together of the trailer and is very important to have a clear structure. Animatics are important to gaining backing from big/small media companies so having a good animatic is important to aking a film happen. By saving the sketches as a JPEG from the detailed storyboard i could use Adobe Premiere Element to easily piece the animatic together, i have used Adobe Premiere Element before so having previous experience with the software i found it a lot easier to use. Another software i could have use would be windows movie maker which is a simpler version of Adobe Premiere Elements and is easier to use but having previous experience with Adobe Premiere Elements i felt confident using a more professional piece of software. By coping and pasting the JPEGs of the storyboard sketches i could just drag the pictures in order and change the time i waned each sketch to last for.

This is Adobe premiere elements which i used for the animatics.
This is the animatic getting put together using Adobe premiere elements.
Soundtrack - For the production of our trailer we decided to create our own music which i have never done before. I ued garageband and a MIDI keyboard. This helped me create the soundtrack and i picked up on how to use this quickly. This software is easy to use and once playing around with it i found it very beneficial to create a decent soundtrack.
This is Garage band in use.
Poster and magazine cover - The production of poster and magazine was done using the same software.
To begin i created the basic poster idea which i had in mind for a long time which was a spooky picture of the woods with Faded Delusion at the bottom with the awards we won and a tag line but after evaluating this i decided to change it around to have more of an effective amateur poster which would attract the audience from 16- 25 that liked old school horrors. For the creation of this i decided to use Adobe Photoshop as it is easy to use and i have previous experience in using this. The poster was then getting put together by using the tools in Adobe Photoshop. I chose a more effective image for the poster then got the right font and used magic wand to select the title of the film to place on the poster, then by find credits and using magic wnd again to select the awards we have won from amateur film festivals and place them in the bottom corners of the poster after completing the poster i was very happy with the feel it gives which is a low budget amateur poster that will attract the horror audience. It also gave the feel of a 1980's horror which is the feel i wanted to go for. The magazine was the same process an used the same software. I also had a idea for the magazine which w the fuzzy background from the film with Faded Delusion in the middles but we decided to put the villain on the front and in the middle which will attract the audience. To select the title of EMPIRE i used to used the magic wand tool again after using it for the poster i was more confident with using this tool. The magazine cover was easy to piece together.

Evaluation Task 3
Monday, 15 April 2013
Evaluation activity 1
1.In the first screen grab i have chosen a scene where the reporter and being chased by the Slenderman who is in the background watching him run. in this screen shot it also introduces the actors with the titles. This is a long shot of both characters and leaves the audience with a big enigma to why he is running? How powerful is the Slenderman? The location this is shot in the woods which is a prime location for the Slenderman likes to strike. You can see the Slenderman in full costume and we used a long shot to show both characters and the way in which the Slenderman is watching a frightened reporter. we chose t do this long shot because it shows the extent of fear that the reporter is feelings and gives that feel to the audience.
2.In the second screen grab we see a black hand of the Slenderman reaching to shut the door on the reporter with the annotation below ' The reporter that got too involved' leaving even more enigmas for the audience. We use a POV shot ( point of view ) giving the audience the feel that they are the Slenderman watching the reporter. This also helps introduce the reporter and shows how interested the Slenderman is with him. We also used the titles in this shot to give more of a trailer feel to the audience and explain the story more.
3. For the 3rd screen grab i have chosen from the trailer when it fades to black from the little boy playing, his mum has just been interviewed by the reporter and says ' Watch out' there are more shots like this to give the horror feel in the trailer and the tense music that goes with it will get the audience thinking and make them tense as they will be thinking they have to watch out for Slenderman.
4. In this screen grab is show the reporter sitting down on his laptop writing up his story as with every reporter its hard to get that story that will make them a well known reporter. This introduces the character of who he is and what he is doing which shows in a later screen grab.
5. This screen grab shows the little boy who has just seen something , drops his toy and screams looking right at the audience who have the feel of how scared the boy is. It also tells the audience that the Slenderman is following the reporter as he finds out more and starts to leave trails that the reporter could be being set up by the Slenderman.
6. In this shot is shows the Slenderman being introduced with a medium shot slowly getting closer and reaching towards the audience suggesting he is saying ' you're next' as he reaches towards the audience it will make them scared and he gets closer quickly with editing. This also shows location of the woods which we also see in screen grab 1 and the reporter running. The Slenderman is wearing a suit but has no distinctive features just a blank face i feel this makes him very scary and fits in perfectly for the horror genre.
7. In this screen grab is shows the reporter sitting down watching the news, looking for a story to make himself big. sitting down in his dressing gown shows he his career isnt going as planned and maybe he can find an interesting story to make himself big. In this shot we used an over the shoulder shot which pans into the news we felt this was very effective giving the audience the feel that they are in the room.
8. This screen grab shows the title of our film using basic black and white which we feel is very effective and stands out a lot to the audience. We have chosen teh same font throughout the trailer which we feel fits in well with this horror trailer. Faded Delusion to the audience will make them know straightaway that it is a horror film and a dark film.
9. This is a screen grab of our production company which we made ourselves. It is a British low budget company which has won a few festivals which is shows also in the trailer. This also tells the audience that the company supports horror films with the name ' Graveyard Productions'. The animation was created by using Adobe flash. This is a god shot because is allows the audience to see that this is a low budget production. It adheres to the conventions of a horror trailer by having a gravestone and lightening and this production shows that our production aims towards just creating horror films.

Evaluation Targets
There is minimal evidence of evaluation. You need to include analysed screen grabs and a director's commentary and must address the strengths of your production compared to last year's production. What did you actually do in the editing process and how? Make sure you are using technical terminology and explore how all three production tasks compliment each other. Where is your magazine front cover and your film poster?

Alien Poster comparison
In the first alien poster it uses a green and black with the green glowing which suggest extra terrestrial life forms hatching out of the large egg. The tagline in space no one can hear you scream targets the audience and interacts with them and tells them it is a sci-fi film.
This Alien poster links with the first one using the same colour scheme, which shows the audience it is a sci-fi film. They have chosen a different font and for the i in Alien they have chosen a green beam and have not gone for such a simple poster.
This is the first film produced by James Cameron. You can tell the change with the colour scheme to blue and has included the characters on the front (hero) instead of the Aliens (villain) which shows the difference he wants to make with the franchise, but hasn't lost the Alien completely front the front with the eggs still there
This poster shows that James Cameron is taking the Alien franchise into his own by changing up the poster. He has used this Alien as the hatched egg showing its new born , this also indicates this is the last Alien movie as it has changed so much from the original poster which they have based all the others around
Empire magazine covers
This front cover shows the main character 'Wolverine' who is the main focus of this issue. He is in the middle of the front cover and is the largest item on the front cover showing the audience what the focus of this empire magazine is. The second largest is the main title 'Empire' with its colour differing from the other titles making it stand out more and showing that is it Empire magazine title. The next boldest font that stands out is 'Review of the year' telling the audience that is it the best review of the year grabbing their interest to read it, this is also in a larger and bolder font than the other titles. The other featured films of a similar genre 'the dark knight' will attract other audience to read the magazine. This magazine cover is very interactive with the audience with a 3D like image of wolverine, also 'star wars: the musical?' making the audience think by asking them a question. The tagline ' the worlds biggest movie magazine' tells the reader they are one of the best. the world exclusive of x-men origins will grab the reader as it is a 'world exclusive' which ill intrig the audience and make them want to see more about this world exclusive. With other films such as ghostbusters 3, public enemies, gran torino and the wrestler all with less focus and with small harder to see fonts makes the audience less attarcted to reading about those films and focusing on wolverine and the world exclusive.
This cover of Empire magazines main focus is on harry potter 6 as a big picture of harry central show the audience that he is the main focus and that harry has cuts and cracked glasses showing he might have got into a battle. Right next to harry potter is a little title 'BLOODY HELL! Harry comes out fighting' telling the audience that harry will be having a fight on his hands and 'comes out fighting'. 'Massive Preview Special!' Will attract the audience of getting a sneak peak inot many other films below that it says '45 new movies you need to know about right now!' then listed below that 'Harry potter 6 , Wolverine , Star trek , The Wolfman , Green Zone , Quantum Of Solace, Watchmen and many more!'. These titles will grab the audience with those chosen films in the list as main attractions with harry potter 6 in different font showing the audience again that harry potter will be the main focus of this empire magazine issue. The picture below this is of 3 main characters from the films listed above with James bond , Wolverine and a girl front watchmen. There is then a list of 3 films at the bottom Terminator 4 / Mulder & scully / Tropic Thunder, although these arent the main focus they stand out separated from the other films listed. The only problem with this is the yellow font of Mulder & scully which isnt very visible. The tagline ' the worlds biggest movie magazine' tells the reader they are one of the best that will attract the audience to this magazine.
This cover shows the main focus is on Captain Jack and his ' all new crew'. The main image is Captain Jack Sparrow with a gun and with all his gear showing that he is a pirate and there will be action as you can see 1 gun in hid hand and another in the front off his pouch. 'Empire' is in large font showing the audience that that titles is different from the other and the magazine name. This cover is very vibrant and will stand out compared to the conventional darker magazine cover. On the left it shows other large actors such a Matt Damon and Christian bale, the taglines underneath Matt Damon goes dark! and Christian Bale lightens up! showing the contrast of acting roles. Next to Captain Jack it says Essential 2011 Preview which will attract the audience because the magazine is telling people that it is essential to them. Also above the Empire title it says ' movies' biggest year ever' telling the audience this year is big for movies this will attract people to buy the magazine wanting to know why 2011 will be so big for movies. Down the right side is lists films featuring in the magazine and at the end states ' An 102 more'. The colour scheme of yellow and white for the bottom half and yellow and black for the bottom half will attract the audience because it stands out.

Coursework Targets
Your animatic needs to be analysed in detail - why would it affectively attract your target audience and how does it conform to conventions of genre?
Make sure you have analysed a range of film magazine front covers also.
This Wednesday - film uploaded.
Last Friday of term - Film poster and front cover of a magazine uploaded.
First day back - Evaluation activities complete.

Storyboard animatic/ analysed
The first couple of shots will be title 1 which is our own company graveyard productions and the second will be a shot saying who the film is directed by ( me and will). the next shot is an over the shoulder shot of the new reporter watching the tele for any leads into a new story that could get him noticed. it then slowly zooms into the tv showing the weather report which leads to the story of the slenderman which he decides is the news story to get him noticed. It then fades to black with the next shot coming up of the new reporter getting ready to go out and find out more about these myterious dissappearances , in this shot we recoreded it through a window to give the audience a feel of being the person watching in on his life aka the slenderman. Its the jump cuts to the next shot of the new reporter putting on his shoes with the door still in shot giving the audience the feel that the slenderman is the one watching him which is then shown again in the next shot where the news reporter looks up as he hears something then the door shutting leaving the enigma that the slenderman doesnt want to get caught but is keeping a close eye on him.
In the next scene the news reporter goes to interview a woman who might know some information about the slenderman myteries but what he doesnt know is the slenderman is still watching. In this angled shot of the woman and child , the door then shuts leaving the child to play outside by himselfin the quiet neighbourhood. It then fades to black then zooms in on the child playing then cuts to black and zooms in on the kid playing again like something is going to happen to him , the child looks up and drops his toy which givesthe enigma to the audience was it the slenderman?
The next sequence is the police thinking that the new reporter is the slenderman as he has been at most of the crime scenes just before the dissappearances. This is a long shot with the 3 characters being shown at a slight angle.which the shows the new reporter running away as he believes he is onto something really big breaking the myth forever and releasing its dark secrets. There is then a chase scene leading the 3 men into the woods and then in the backgroud of this medium shot the auidience can see the slenderman. This then jump cuts to a close up of the slenderman which fades to the title ' Faded Delusion'.
This trailer would attarct our target audience because i feel that the trailer gives enough tension and enigmas to attract the right audience with the myth of the slenderman creeping in our trailer a few times.

1st possible poster
For the poster i have decided to take the end shot from the trailer as i feel it gives a myterious feel about the film but and doesnt give a lot away which could be a bad thing btu i have also included a picture of the slenderman in the background with a tag line of ' the slenderman is coming for you' which will catch the audiences eye. Also for the second poster i will be adding another tag line of ' based on a true story' which i have forgotten to add to this poster. By adding this it will appeal to the audience more because true stories attract audiences more because they are intrigued about what actually went on. The release date will be in teh bottom left and the certificate in the bottom right. i have a couple of the actors names in the top right corner as they are the bigger two actors in the film but i will add the smaller actors in a smaller font. i have the directors names in the middle at the bottom, i have chosen the color red as it could make the audience think that it could be gorey and have a lot fo blood. the title faded delusion is in the biggest font as it has large importance to the film also being the last shot.
In the second poster i will be trying to add more colour and making a simpilar poster.
In the second poster i will be trying to add more colour and making a simpilar poster.
Soundtrack research
The sort of theme we are going for is horror, this means we have to build the tension with a slow to past pace and with the soundtrack we use. We were thinking of using a heartbeat most of the way through buliding the tension. The heartbeat would be used whilst we are have it at a slow pace when we fade out shots eventuallly bulding up then changing the music to something that has a slow bass to it still with a sort of heartbeat to it but having a faster pace music above it.
certificate
typical audience
our typical audience member will be male as it is a scary film and it will appeal to this gender more than females stereotypically. The age group we willl be going for will be 18 + this gives us a decent wide range of the older teen to adult.
The 'obey' i have put on this younger adult is the type of thing they wear after doing research and being 18 myself.
the age range we are aiming for love a good scary film but it will have to get the heart pumping and let the audience think too much on what could happen and try to catch them out when they least expect it even with the trailer i am sure we can achieve this. The woman in black trailer is the sort of trailer i would like to aim for as it even has the scare factor in the trailer which attracted me to watch it.

filming problems *snow*
we where meant to be filming on the 12th january 2013 but due to heavy snow. This was bad for us because it effected our contiuenty which would mean we would have to film many shots. The lighting would have been an issue as well as we needed to film with decent light.

Filming news shot
me and will needed one shot that we could do in the school area, we found a class room suitable for the news report scene. we felt that this location would be good because the school location and the blank wall behind gives off the feel of a news room. This is effective because it makes the audience feel like they are watching a real news report and this is what we are trying to achieve.

Actors
Alex Valente and Conor Redmond will be featuring in our film as the two detectives as they are good at following instruction and as I worked with them last year I found them good to work with.

i will be playing the main character in the film as i am available me and will have the same time free out of school so it will be easy to film

William Huck will be playing the CSI detective , slenderman who is a masked character , as me and will have worked together filming previously i feel that we have the same vision also he is good to work with.

the impossible trailer
the impossible is about a true story from 2004 about a family battling through a tsunami as they get taken away and apart from each other trying to find each other again. It is a true story based on the family in 2004. The story line: the family go on holiday to and are living in luxury until the tsunami hits the family and they are torn apart.
The trailer starts off with a piano playing giving the audience a feel that everything is 'calm before the storm'
the dad played by Ewan Mcgregor then calls his kids outside which is the first chance for the audience to see the whole family with a mid shot. it then cuts to show clips of the family and how close they are as a family. The music then stopped and the tsunami hit the resort then cuts to the dad shouting 'Lucas' his sons name.
its fades to a shot of 'This is one family's true story survival' enticing the audience as it is a true story the audience will be attracted to the film. The film is mainly aimed at girls and older people as it is a quite upsetting film. I went to see the film to get an idea of what parts they picked out and the whole storyline not giving too much away but giving the audience an idea of the story.
